COMPANY BACKGROUND AND
OVERVIEW OF KALMATRON®

UNHYDRATED CEMENT: A
PROBLEM IN CONCRETE
Unhydrated cement grains constitute a major problem
in new concrete construction. It is estimated that unhydrated
cement grains make up about 8-10% of the total concrete
volume. However, Kalmatron® works on the unhydrated
cement grains before crystallization and dissolves them. Plus, the water/cement ratio can be decreased
from 300 lbs. (37 gal.) of water per cubic yd. of concrete, to 270 lbs.
(33 gal.) of
water per cu. yd., which is an important reduction for concrete mix.
NOT A FILLER
There are numerous concrete additives available on
the market today and almost all of them are some type of
filler. It is a well-known fact that over time, concrete
repels foreign inclusions. Kalmatron® is NOT a filler; NOT
a polymer; NOT a plasticizer; NOT an organic mineral; NOT
pozzolanic; and, does NOT contain chloride. Kalmatron®
is an inorganic composition which is chemically similar to
cement. Kalmatron® diffuses into the concrete in a way that
creates one homogeneous mass. Kalmatron® is compatible with
concrete. On the molecular level, there is an affinity between
Kalmatron® and concrete.
COMPOSITION
Let's take a look at what changes take place in
concrete with the addition of Kalmatron®. Depending upon the
ratio of Kalmatron® to cement in the concrete mix, either flexural
strength can be increased dramatically, or compression strength can
be increased as follows:
-
Normal Density of concrete is around 125
lbs. per cu. ft. Kalmatron® increases this density to 150
lbs. per cu. ft. economically. This is a substantial
increase in the most important factor in concrete strength.
-
Resistance to Corrosion of the rebar
increases up to 100% in water, sea water, and sewage. This
is mainly due to the density of the concrete, however, it is
also due to the formation of a .006mm oxide film from the
Kalmatron® solution. Chloride and sulfate penetration to
the rebar is effectively stopped.
-
When used in pure form, as a 3mm - 5mm facing,
Kalmatron® is Impermeable to Liquids up to 14 atms.
It is also impermeable when 10-15 lbs. of Kalmatron® is mixed
with 1 cu. yd. of concrete, given the following:
that the mass of the concrete is large enough to become
impermeable, such as heavy construction and bridge
construction. Again, the recommended concrete mix ratio is
10-15 lbs. of Kalmatron® to 1 cu. yd. of concrete, or 5-10 kg. of
Kalmatron® to 1 cu. m. of concrete.
-
Flexural Strength increases by 15 to
20%!!! Most additives on the market increase flexural
strength by 5 to 10%.
-
Resistance to Rupture is extremely
important when building bridges and dams. Kalmatron®
increases this resistance by 60%.
-
Compression Strength stays inversely
proportionate to flexural strength. The cement grains are
completely hydrated, no voids, and less water is used in the concrete
mix. Kalmatron® increases the compression strength by 20 to
25%.
-
Kalmatron® increases Freeze and Thaw
Resistance by 35%. This is a definite advantage to
contractors who work on projects in colder climates or during
winter seasons.
-
Normal Shrinkage in concrete is .5 to
.2%. Kalmatron® reduces shrinkage to .015%, which is a
reduction of 66%, which allows for higher stability.
